Albury Family

From storytime and toy borrowing to circus skills, holiday programs and youth activities, Albury families have practical ways to play, learn and connect. When extra help is needed, local and regional services also cover early development, parenting, relationships, disability, wellbeing and family hardship.

✨ Play, stories and active fun

Albury LibraryMuseum Storytimes

Young children can share songs, rhymes and stories with a parent or carer during free NSW school-term sessions. Preschool Storytime is for ages 3–5 on Tuesdays from 10.30 to 11 am, while Tiny Tots welcomes children under 3 on Wednesdays from 10.30 to 11 am.

Albury Toy Library

Located inside the PCYC building in East Albury, this member-run lending library gives families access to more than 500 toys for children aged 0–8. It operates during NSW school terms, and children must remain supervised by a parent or guardian during visits.

Flying Fruit Fly Circus – Circus Arts: Discovery

Children aged 4–6 can build confidence and explore movement in a weekly 60-minute circus class. Classes run on Saturdays during Victorian school terms in Albury-Wodonga, and advance enrolment is required. Children under 12 must be accompanied before class and collected promptly afterwards.

PCYC Albury

School-aged children can take part in GymSTAR gymnastics, with beginner and intermediate classes for ages 5–8 and 8–12. PCYC Albury also publishes full-day school-holiday programs for children aged 5–12. Bookings are essential, and families should ask the club which gymnastics level is suitable.

🌟 Early learning, care and parenting

Banjora Children’s Centre

This not-for-profit Springdale Heights centre provides long day care and early learning for children from six weeks to five years. Meals, nappies, wipes and sunscreen are supplied. Care requests go onto a waitlist, so parents and carers need to create an account and submit a request before an offer can be considered.

AlburyCity OOSH – St Patrick’s and Trinity

Children from Kindergarten to Year 6 can access school-day care at two locations. St Patrick’s offers after-school care, while Trinity in Thurgoona provides both before-school and after-school care. Places depend on availability, and submitting a care request does not confirm enrolment.

Gateway Health HIPPY

HIPPY is a free, two-year home-based early learning and parenting program. It begins when a child is 3 and continues when they are 4 and attending preschool. A tutor supports the parent or carer to complete activities and storybooks with their child. The program covers Albury-Wodonga and several nearby communities, with priority applying to some places.

Westside Community Centre

Families in West Albury can enquire about supported playgroups, parenting programs, school-holiday activities and opportunities for children and young people. For households needing practical assistance, the centre also provides case management, referrals and emergency food relief. Contact the centre to discuss what is currently available.

💡 Child development and emotional wellbeing

Albury Wodonga Health Child and Family Health Service

Families with babies and children under school age can make appointments for free support in the Albury, Thurgoona and Lavington area. Child and family health nurses provide education and health promotion covering feeding, breastfeeding, nutrition, sleep, settling and immunisation, along with developmental screening and referrals where required. Families may self-refer by calling Albury Community Health.

Albury Community Health – Paediatric Allied Health

Paediatric occupational therapy supports children under 8 with eligible developmental, fine-motor, sensory-processing or learning difficulties, as well as eligible children under 18 with physical disability. Physiotherapy is available for ages 0–10, while speech pathology assists children aged 0–12 with communication or swallowing difficulties. Each discipline has eligibility criteria, so families should check the relevant access requirements.

Centacare South West NSW – Counselling for Kids

Children and young people aged 5–18 can receive support with emotional regulation, coping, family changes and school-related stress in Albury or by telehealth. Referrals are welcome but not compulsory, and children under 16 require consent from a parent or carer. Child psychology assessment and therapy may also be available when more specialised support is appropriate.

🤝 Youth and family support

YES Unlimited – Support for Young People

Young people aged 12–25 can access case management, mentoring, brief individual and family counselling, group work, recreation and school-holiday activities. The Hive Youth Resource Centre in Lavington provides a youth space, while The Hub in Albury is a contact point for support.

This free and voluntary navigation service covers the Murrumbidgee region, including Albury-Wodonga. Social workers help families facing parenting concerns, financial stress, housing problems, family breakdown, mental health concerns, or domestic and family violence to understand and connect with relevant supports. Families may refer themselves, and professionals can also make referrals.

Gateway Health Community and Family Support (CAFS)

CAFS provides free case management and family support in Albury for NSW families with children or young people considered at risk, including pregnant women. Assistance may involve parenting education, coaching, group work, self-care and help to strengthen social connections. Access requires an intake process or referral.

Gateway Health Family and Relationships Counselling

Couples, parents, separated families, extended family members, children and young people affected by relationship difficulties can access free counselling. Sessions are delivered at Gateway Health in nearby Wodonga for people from Albury, Wodonga and surrounding areas. Self-referrals are accepted; the provider advises that current waiting times may be six to nine months.

📌 Before you book or attend

  • Check the calendar: several activities follow NSW or Victorian school terms, while holiday programs use separate schedules.
  • Confirm the age range: programs have specific age, school-year or developmental eligibility requirements.
  • Ask about access: enquire directly about physical accessibility, communication needs and reasonable adjustments.
  • Plan ahead: classes, care and counselling may require enrolment, intake, consent, a referral or time on a waitlist.
  • Confirm practical details: check current fees, vacancies, session times and parent or carer supervision requirements before travelling.
